Comparing Relief Sculpture to Free-Standing Sculpture

Benefits of Relief Sculpture:

Reliefs are better as architectural elements in terms of design and planning. They can easily be incorporated into space as decoration, taking up less room. They can be placed anywhere on the wall or freeze to bring the area to life and add artistic ornamentation.

Drawback of Relief Sculpture:

The drawback of the relief compared to the free-standing statue is that it can't give a full impression of three-dimensionality. It still has its background that it is attached to, and cannot be seen separately in free space from all angles as a real body in the space. This can make transportation and movement of reliefs harder, as they historically have been part of the building's architecture.
