Life Cycle of Insects: Cicada vs Ladybug

What are the different stages in the reproduction and death cycle of a cicada and a ladybug?

1. What are the stages in complete metamorphosis?

2. What are the stages in incomplete metamorphosis?

Answer:

Larva and pupa are present in complete metamorphosis, while nymph is present instead of larva and pupa in incomplete metamorphosis.

Complete metamorphosis has four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. In contrast, incomplete metamorphosis has three stages: egg, nymph, and adult. Insects such as grasshoppers, dragonflies, cicadas, and cockroaches undergo incomplete metamorphosis, while ladybugs, houseflies, butterflies, and honeybees go through complete metamorphosis.

Both types of insects lay eggs, and after hatching, a baby insect known as a larva emerges. This larva then transforms from an immature stage to a mature stage, known as pupa. After the pupa stage, the insect turns into an adult that is capable of reproduction.

A nymph stage is present in incomplete metamorphosis, taking the place of larva and pupa. During this stage, the insect is small in size and lacks wings. However, in the adult stage, the wings appear.
